Orginally drawn on mylar, the artist says his first challenge was that he had to draw the gorilla's expression in reverse for the printing process. The second challenge "was to decide how much of the gorilla to show to convey its magnificence. I wanted the gorilla's human traits, coupled with its power, to come through in print. For that reason, I concentrated on the head, and, in particular, the eyes."
